The total import and export value of the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region reached 39.01 billion yuan ($6.1 billion) in the first four months of this year, registering year-on-year growth of 9.5 percent in its foreign trade, customs officials in Urumqi said.
In April alone, the import and export volume of the region totaled 10.96 billion yuan, up 30.6 percent year-on-year. The foreign trade at Khorgos and Alashankou ports on the China-Kazakstan border have been experiencing a rapid growth.
Kazakhstan is the largest trading partner of Xinjiang, with import and export volume hitting 22.4 billion yuan in the first four months of this year, which is 57.4 percent of Xinjiang's total foreign trade volume in the period.
Trade between enterprises in Xinjiang and most of the countries that have joined the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, or RCEP, is booming. International trade with Vietnam (106.7 percent), the Republic of Korea (196.5 percent), Thailand (121.3 percent) and Japan (45.6 percent).
Urumqi Customs said it will continue optimizing the pandemic-control measures at ports, improving the efficiency of warehouse operations and logistics systems and ensuring a stable supply chain in the future.
